Gold Fever! Prospecting in Indiana

Did you know that you can pan for gold right here in Indiana? Flour gold, flakes and even nuggets have been discovered, along with garnets and diamonds. Come join the members of the Southern Indiana Chapter of the Gold Prospectors Association of America, and learn how to find gold right here in our own back yard! Pans and other equipment will be on hand for participants to try, and educational materials will be provided.

Classical Guitar Concert

Canning 101: The Basics

Families now more than ever are preserving their own foods. Many home preservers assume that if the canning jar is sealed, the food is safe; no matter what preservation method was used. False, this assumption could lead to devastation for you and your loved ones. During the workshop, we will address what methods of canning should be used on acid foods verses non-acid foods; the importance of headspace; new up-to-date resources; the importance of using research-based recipes when home canning; causes of jar breakage, causes of unsealed jars, and storage of home canned products. If you would like to have your pressure gauge tested on your pressure canner, please bring your lid to the program.

Breaking Ground: Indiana Archaeology

Basic First Aid Certification Course

Rex Saltsgaver, of the Greenwood Police Department, will teach treatment procedures for bleeding, shock, burns, fractures, allergic reactions, as well as heat and cold related emergencies. Upon completion of the course, students will receive a 3 year Basic First Aid Certification through the American Safety and Health Institute. A fee of $13.50, payable at the beginning of the class, will cover the cost of the required book. This class is open to grade 9 to adult.
